Langley Memorial Hospital is a 184-bed community hospital with a range of specialist services. It has on-site access to ultrasound, CT, and MRI. Currently, the Emergency Department sees 48,000 visits per year. In Spring 2021, we will be transitioning into our brand-new Emergency Department space, which will be a modern 49-bed purpose-built facility. The new department is designed with ample room in each individually-enclosed care space to facilitate patient examination and procedures. It is also informed by modern concepts on patient flow through the department.
The team of physicians, nurses, and allied health staff at the LMH ED is highly collegial. We are affiliated with residency programs at UBC and there are opportunities to work with learners.
Emergency physicians at our site maintain a broad scope of practice. In recent analysis of the department, the LMH ED has similar patient acuity and volume as some regional centers despite being a community hospital. While there is specialty backup and support, emergency physicians at LMH continue to own the emergency workup and management. There is ample opportunity to perform all major emergency procedures, including access to fluoroscopy for fracture reductions. There is a highly efficient minor treatment area (Zone 3) built into each shift, with skilled LPNs who will support minor procedures and treatment of a variety of minor complaints.
Langley has easy access to the Lower Mainland, while maintaining access to numerous outdoor opportunities in the Fraser Valley. There’s great access to local foods and even some small wineries. Within the department, there is a mix of physicians who live in the community and those who commute from other parts of the Lower Mainland.
